A Summer Celebration to Remember:

Charlotte & Rob's
feasting Wedding

17th July 2025

On a rainy July afternoon, Charlotte and Rob tied the knot in a heartfelt ceremony in Sherborne, followed by a beautifully curated celebration at our venue. Their day was a perfect reflection of relaxed summer luxury and feasting with family and friends.

The Feast

The couple opted for a feasting-style wedding banquet, designed to bring everyone together around abundant platters and vibrant seasonal flavours. Guests enjoyed:
  • Two exquisite main “his & hers” meats: Honey garlic soy salmon & tender garlic venison.
  • A vegan tart option, crafted for their plant-based guests.
  • A spread of summer salads and sides – orzo salad, creamy potato salad, lentil & bocconcini mix, truffle roasted potatoes, and indulgent dauphinoise.
  • Seasonal vegetables: smoky glazed carrots, lemon-garlic broccoli, and roasted celeriac.
The feast concluded with a two-tiered wedding carrot cake – the perfect centrepiece for photos – accompanied by a 11kg cheese board by Longman’s Cheese.

Drinks & Atmosphere

The celebrations kicked off with glasses of prosecco (and pomegranate & elderflower fizz for non-drinkers), followed by curated wines – our Paddock Shiraz and Acacia Tree chenin blanc.
The garden came alive during the welcome drinks hour, with bowls of classic pub snacks and the warm laughter of 50 guests.

The Aesthetic

  • Flowers: A mix of soft blues, purples, pinks, lavender, daisies, and baby’s breath in charming mini jars and vases supplied by the very talented Amanda at Pickle & Ginger Florals.
  • Touches of personality: Private event signage, a gift zone, and thoughtful décor, and homemade details that made guests feel at home.
  • Evening magic: Cake cutting in the garden during a dry spell, followed by the couple’s first dance under the glow of the DJ lights.

The Flow of the Day

  • 12pm: Ceremony in Sherborne.
  • 1-3pm: Welcome drinks, pub snacks & photos in the garden.
  • 3pm: Heartfelt speeches before dinner.
  • 4-6pm: A feast!
  • 7:30pm: Cake cutting.
  • 8pm: DJ, dancing, and late-night celebrations.

Why Couples Love This Style of Wedding

Charlotte and Rob’s day was all about connection – shared platters, intimate moments, and a relaxed schedule. This style of celebration is perfect for couples looking for:
    • laid-back, modern approach to wedding dining.
    • Seasonal, indulgent menus with flexible vegan/gluten-free options.
    • A venue that blends indoor charm with outdoor garden moments.

Family, Food, and Fun — A BBQ Christening Celebration

8th June 2025

On a busy Sunday in June, we hosted A’s BBQ christening — a joyful garden celebration filled with family, friends, and summer cheer. The day, however, took an unexpected turn when our landlady went into early labour, diagnosed with severe preeclampsia. Thanks to a swift C-section, the baby arrived safely, but it meant Head chef Mal, who was meant to run the BBQ (and then prepare Sunday lunch for 50), had to step away.

Undeterred, his second-in-command and our wonderful local community sprang into action, taking over the grilling duties and ensuring the feast went ahead as planned. The day became a true testament to teamwork, community spirit, and adaptability — a celebration that will be remembered not only for its delicious food but for the extraordinary support and warmth of everyone involved.

the bbq feast

Guests enjoyed a vibrant BBQ spread, designed to bring everyone together:

  • Flame-grilled favourites including burgers, veggie burgers, chicken and prawn skewers, halloumi and peach skewers, and hot dogs.
  • A selection of fresh salads: potato salad, mango-spinach-coriander-cucumber-radish with lime dressing, and a leafy tomato salad.
  • Margarita pizzas for the little ones.
  • Breadbaskets with granary and flatbreads, and a sauce section including mayo, relish, fried onions, crispy onions, ketchup, and mustard.

drinks

Welcome Pimms set the tone for the day, keeping everyone refreshed in the summer sun, with fizz served to toast the little one. Tea and coffee were available throughout the celebration, and our bar ensured additional drinks were easily accessible.

decor & entertainment

The garden came alive with lawn games, and beautiful floral arrangements added the perfect seasonal touch. Guests mingled, played, and enjoyed the warm summer air, making it a day full of memories for the family and friends alike.
